Emberyl · The Field Guide
Tips & Tricks
Start simply. Find a rhythm that fits your life.
Emberyl works best when it reflects your real life—not an idealized version of it. Begin with what needs your attention now, then add only the tools that genuinely make life easier.

A gentle beginning
Start with one useful day
You do not need to configure every tool before Emberyl becomes useful.
- Add one routine you already do—or one small routine you genuinely want to begin.
- Set down one to-do that needs handling and add a due date only if it is truly useful.
- Open Today, handle the next move, and let the rest of the app wait.
One small step is enough. Emberyl should reduce the number of things you must think about—not become another project to maintain.
Make it yours
Choose the tools that help
Home & Family, Faith & Community, and Work & Hobbies bring your chosen tools and upcoming actions together.
- Open a dashboard and choose Edit tools.
- Add the tools that support this season of your life and hide the ones that do not.
- To reorder a tool, press and hold its card until it lifts, then drag it into place.
Empty space is allowed. A calm dashboard with four useful tools is better than a full dashboard you avoid opening.
Choose the direction
Keep Vision & Priorities close—not cumbersome
Your mission or statement of faith gives Emberyl a direction. Return to it when you need perspective.
Write your vision in the present tense. Try:
- "I am someone who ..."
- "In our home, we hope to make room for ..."
- "Our faith and guiding priorities lead us toward ..."
Keep it to two or three honest sentences. Then name the three priorities that deserve the clearest attention in this season.
Set them, then fold them. Return when a decision needs direction or a new season begins.
Use Today
Let Overview do the sorting
Today is for acting, not reviewing every piece of your system.
- Start with the Overview for your daily rhythms, agenda, upcoming dates, and tonight’s meal.
- Use the quick check when a daily rhythm needs only one tap.
- Open the larger card only when you need steps, reminders, or more context.
Use the level of detail the moment requires. A quick check and a full routine card are two views of the same work—not two tasks.
Find your daily rhythms
Choose a goal or a daily rhythm
Goals hold what you hope to work toward. Daily Rhythms hold the practices that support everyday life, including those you repeat more than once a day.
Use a goal for something with a finish line. Use Daily Rhythms for a repeated practice, a sequence, or something you want to count over time.
Track only what helps. If checking a box will not change a decision, build awareness, or reinforce a useful behavior, you probably do not need to track it.
Capture without clutter
Use Notes as a landing place, not another inbox
The center plus is for quickly setting something down before it disappears.
Use Saved Ideas for a thought or link. Use Journal when you want to write something through. Turn either into a commitment only when you decide to act.
A captured idea does not automatically become a commitment. Keep it because it is interesting; turn it into a to-do or goal only when you decide to act.
Share deliberately
Put shared work where both people can see it
Use Household for coordination—not for duplicating everything in your private account.
Share only the grocery lists, meals, tasks, routines, or dates that require another person. Add an owner when that removes ambiguity.
Shared should answer two questions: what needs handling, and who has it?
A weekly pause
Return to Personal Stewardship once a week
Begin with prayer, give thanks, and check in on the systems that support your life. Pause and return whenever you need.
- Notice gratitude, lessons, and convictions with honesty and grace.
- Review your goals, priorities, relationships, and upcoming calendar.
- Review your prayers and choose a few next steps for the coming week.
Leave with a clear next move—not a perfect account of the week.
Let your tools serve your life, and adjust them as your season changes.
